Dominican Literacy Center is a sponsored institution of the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
We first opened our doors in August in 1989 with three staff members and five tutors. Within a month, the increase in students was so great that additional tutors/volunteers were quickly sought from the community at large.
Today, we are a staff of 7 dedicated literacy champions and advocates, 200 dedicated volunteer tutors and register over 300 students annually. One-to-one tutoring and small group classes make our program unique and provide individualized attention that makes a positive difference in an adult’s educational experience.
The Adrian Dominican Sisters, an international congregation of more than 700 vowed women religious and 200 Associates, minister in 25 states, Puerto Rico, and five countries. In all of our ministries—education, health care, pastoral and retreat ministry, the arts, social work, ecology, and peace and justice advocacy—we strive to live out our Vision: to seek truth, make peace, reverence life.

"The ability to read, write, and analyze; the confidence to stand up and demand justice and equality; the qualifications and connections to get your foot in the door and take your seat at the table — all of that starts with education."
