How to Begin at the Dominican Literacy Center

If you want to learn to read, spell, and write, or to do math, please call the Dominican Literacy Center at 313-267-1000 and register for the next Student Orientation. This three-hour program will introduce you to the Dominican Literacy Center and what we have to offer, and give you ideas on how to get the most out of your study time. If the Dominican Literacy Center seems to offer the right program for you, we will schedule you for an assessment.

This assessment will help determine your skill level and enable you to begin at the right place in reading, in English as a Second Language, or in math.

After we work with you to establish a program that meets your goals, you will be paired with a tutor at a time that is convenient for you. Each paired tutor and learner meet together once a week for two-hour sessions during the Dominican Literacy Center's hours of operation.

The program is free. There is no other cost.
